Community-based livelihood initiatives program aim to improve the management of community natural resources, conserve local biodiversity, preserve and promote indigenous knowledge, women empowerment, strengthen local livelihood security, improve tenure security and enhance local coping and adaptation mechanisms against natural and human-caused disasters. Environmental education services and materials
KESAN environmental education services and materials program is aim to increase children, youth, communities and leader's awareness and participation in environmental impacts mitigation and adaptation both inside Karen State in Burma and along the borders. Environmental education services and materials produce education tool box on environment, gender, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction including the following activities.

Networking, advocacy campaign and media
The overall aim of this program is to strengthen local, regional and international campaigns and networks on rivers, indigenous knowledge and biodiversity conservation and to advocate for policies that ensure people’s participation, ownership and management, and gender equity and environmental sustainability in the developmental processes.

Kachin environment program
KESAN works with other indigenous organizations and communities to promote capacity building, training and community empowerment on environmental issues across Burma. In 2005, KESAN started working with the Pan Kachin Development Society (PKDS) to implement the women led Kachin Environment Project (KEP).
